UN General Assembly High-level Meeting to Address Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants – Apply for Civil Society Steering Committee

On 19 September 2016, the UN General Assembly will host a High-level Meeting at UN Headquarters in New York to address large movements of refugees and migrants, with the aim of bringing countries together behind a more humane and coordinated approach. UN Member State consultations are underway to finalize the organizational arrangements, including on a possible outcome, for this High-level Meeting of the General Assembly.

In consideration of limited time and the importance of civil society engagement on these issues, to support preparations while the organizational arrangements are finalized, the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA) has requested UN-NGLS and UN DESA to launch an open call for applications for a civil society Steering Committee. UN-NGLS will facilitate the Committee toward achieving inclusive and balanced participation of civil society in the High-level Meeting and related events. This civil society Committee will be regionally and gender balanced, with a diversity of constituencies, expertise and age.

UN-NGLS and UN DESA will open an application process for civil society observer and speaker roles in the High-level Meeting after UN Member States finalize the organizational arrangements. Part of the Steering Committee’s role will be to review the civil society speaker applications and to create a short-list of candidates for consideration by the President of the General Assembly.

If you would like to apply for the civil society Steering Committee for this event, please:
