Remittances to El Salvador Increase

El Salvador received from January to October remittances for 3.2 billion USD, 7.2 percent more than in the same period last year, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported. The BCR said the monthly average of remittances for the January-October period this year was $ 322.3 million USD, which is above the $ 300.7 million USD received during the first 10 months of 2011.

The good performance of remittances to El Salvador is the result of the improvement of the economy and employment in the United States, home to approximately 2.5 million Salvadorans, the source said.
