There is no truth in news reports that remittances from the US to Pakistan are being banned by the end of August. There is no truth in such reports, said Nasir Qureshi, General Manager of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in New York.
“People can continue to send their remittances through our Internet remittance services, from their homes, workplace or anywhere to anywhere in Pakistan,” he added. Talking to Geo, he said the bank’s regulators in Washington DC had given directions to the NBP Washington Branch to stop ‘Walk-in Window Service’ for remittance customers.
There will be no service to ‘Walk-in Customers’ at the National Bank of Pakistan branches in the US. Remittances can be sent only through the Internet service of NBP. A letter from the NBP Washington DC manager has caused some confusion.
Reports and rumours generated that there will be a ban on remittances from the US to Pakistan. Whereas the fact is that the NBP has stopped its walk-in service. This decision by NBP will divert large number of NBP customers to remit through private licensed money remitters. The wrong news of a ban on remittances caused a panic in Pakistani community in the US.
